My fascination with photography goes back to childhood. In 5th grade, I had a good fortune of taking after school photography, my first contact with the discipline. Though I generally remember only vague, hazy scenes from elementary school, I still remember the experience in that class like it was yesterday. Then, in high school, I was lucky enough to borrow a friend's father's SLR camera for an afternoon. What did I do? I focused! Every scene I shot had something in the foreground and something in the background. I would, for instance, take a shot focused on the person and then an identical shot focused on the fence 10 feet behind them. In that day, I produced a ton of "non-memorable" shots and a couple good ones. But, I did show myself the power of compositional control you can have with a decent camera and lots of practice. I knew I had to come back to photography at some point.
In recent years, I have had the fortune to finally pursue the craft seriously, working hard to develop my skills and style and getting some instruction at the New England School of Photography. In those years, my work has been featured by NPR, CNN, Parachutist Magazine, and "Andover," the magazine of the Phillips Academy.
In my "other" life, I am a musician: a composer and music educator. I teach music theory and composition at the Phillips Academy in Andover, MA and I guess you could say that music composition and photographic composition make a good pairing.
Please have a look around. Contact me. Ask questions. Order shots if you like. Let me know if I can be of any service.
